A few days ago I received this email from a reader, regarding my latest post about immigration changes:
You think that is going to resolve are problems here in Canada .
I work with people that have a engineering diploma and Can’t find work .
And working lower paid jobs just to survive .
O yes bring more people here .
I think it is time that the government look again where the problems really are .
Punish the older generation that build this Country.
Have a great day
Let’s be realistic. This is no paradise.
Although I agree to say Canada is a “Meritocracy” where those who make the efforts will finally get something in return, not everyone is able to succeed.
There are dozens of different reasons for that and, if you want, shared blames. We can blame the immigrant and tell him/her: you have no language skills, you did not do enough research, you do not have a demanded career and many more.
We can also blame the government by telling there was a lack of research on their part, that some professionals were not really needed, that employers are not sensitive enough to the situation, that they bring more people than they should, and also many more.
For those immigrant that are in an unfortunate situation there are no excuses. They just need solutions to their problems. And I agree.
Sadly, failure to accomplish always come with frustration and shortsightedness.
Those immigrants who had failed and are not having the life they imagined for them in Canada commit the mistake of using their frustration for the wrong purposes. They just blame others, they whine all over the place, they try to pass their frustration to others. I’ve found they cannot use their energy in a positive way. Ask for thelp to those that really can help them. Calm down, look around and wisely decide what to do.
They just cannot, they are too angry for that. And every single day it gets worst.
At the same time, they become shortsighted. They start looking for solutions to their problems where they should not. They blame Canada for bringing in more immigrants. They blame Canada for not giving them what they think they deserve. I wonder if they would be capable of looking to themselves to find out what is wrong and try to fix it?
It’s not all about what we think others do to ruin us. Sometimes is also about what we do not do for ourselves and how we invest our energy and time to get things fixed.
Let me know your thoughts.

I kind of agree with you. While life isn’t perfect in Canada, if you get into a mindset where you see the system as a failure, nothing good can come out of it. It’s a vicious circle.
I know a lot of immigrants there and while most adapted in a way (by not having the exact same position as they did back home for instance), most are happily employed.

Sad thing is that bad stories are heard more often that good stories. Even when the former are less than the latter.

It’s part of human behavior complain about everything, no matter where you’re! Immigrant life is not easy, but neither life itself – that’s the beauty of the “thing”!!!
