About the changes coming to immigration in Canada

Post image for About the changes coming to immigration in Canada

I posted about this yesterday in our facebook page and also emailed it to a few readers that participated in our webinar a few days ago.

I feel it should be shared with you also today.

This is the thing: this past Monday it was the beginning of a new parliamentary session in Canada. Our Prime Minister Harper and his majority at Parliament Hill in Ottawa will strive to transform the country into an economic powerhouse in the shortest possible time. And knowing Harper a little bit, I can bet he will really push to get what he wants.

One of the biggest changes will be to the immigration policy. According to this article posted in a newspaper today, Minister Jason Kenney plans to raise the bar even more and will want to target skilled immigrants who can speak English or French and whose credentials are acceptable to Canadian professional and labour organizations.

Is that a bad thing? Not at all. It also has a logic behind it: no language, no work, o integration, no good for Canada. Easy, eh? Nevertheless, there will be people whining about the changes, as Nick Noorani pointed out yesterday in one of his posts.

Is this going to happen any time soon? It will happen this year, I’m sure. Tories are just pitching the changes to see how the media reacts.

What can you do now? My advice for you  is: “Be ready for changes!”. Read, ask, research. Think, process what you read and make conclusions. A prepared, informed person always makes the best decisions.

So, what do you think about this changes proposal? Do they make sense for you?

Interesting…………im glad I speak English. Maybe its a good thing, it will incourage people to learn another language. I would love to learn to speak French one day.

Mr.G February 2, 2012 at 7:59 am

It should encourage people to do the right thing before coming to Canada, at least!

MR G
Why We keep bringing people here to Canada ,when the government is down sizing and we have 7.3 % off people with no work .
Why not train the ones we have here with no work .

wannes February 5, 2012 at 6:25 pm

I like to learn another language to . and computer classes than maybe I can apply for a government job to . We have enough people here with no work are very low income .

Ramy February 2, 2012 at 4:05 am

I hope thay new changes will reduce our long waiting for federal skilled worker pre c-50

Mr.G February 2, 2012 at 7:59 am

I hope so, too!

Michelle February 5, 2012 at 1:37 pm

Hi Ramy and Mr. G,
I’ve read your comments on another post and still didn’t understand the issue you raised up.
1- is it that old applications take more time to process than the new ones?
I mean, did CIC start processing new applications without finishing the old ones? and why?
2- can an old applicant submit new application without withdrawing their old aplication
please help. thank you.

Mr.G February 5, 2012 at 5:57 pm

I did not raise any issue Michelle.

I’m not sure about the applications question.

Michelle February 6, 2012 at 4:17 pm

Hi Mr. G,
I am sorry I didn’t make myself clear,
here is the issue,
Ramy commented in 5/1/2012 on an old post titled: “Immigration to Canada 2012: What to expect”
here is the link: http://thezieglersblog.com/2012/01/immigration-to-canada-2012-what-to-expect/
In his comment, Ramy raised the issue of: “backlog pre c-50″. and he asked you for your input regarding applicants who applied before Feb 2008.
you refered the question to Yves Martineau who replied to Ramy’s comments and advised him to submit another application.
I tried to reply on that post but unfortunately it has been closed for new comments.
I hope you remember the issue now and please accept my appology for not being clear at first.

Mr.G February 6, 2012 at 8:40 pm

Mr.G February 2, 2012 at 7:58 am

wannes February 2, 2012 at 9:01 am

But a little upset

Mr.G February 5, 2012 at 6:30 pm

Buddy, I’d like to learn more of your story. Would you have a chat with me about you and your canadian story?

merdock February 6, 2012 at 1:40 am

Im am living in South Africa, & its BAD here too. Our boarders are open to all of Africa. Not to mention Nigerian drug dealers that you find on almost any street corner. We even have Building hi-jackers. They move into a building as tenants, then start destroying the building. The landlord can’t fix the the damage (stolen light bulbs, burst water pipes, trash everywhere) in time. This gives the tenants an excuse not to pay. And you cant get them out. Conclusion; they live there rent free, but with no lights and water or lifts or etc. If only we had a government like Canada’s or the US’s, I would not want to leave this BEAUTIFUL country i was born & raised in. There are lots of jobs here, but I can not fill this positions because of affirmative action………….Not trying to insult anyone or race group here, just telling it how it is.

Mr.G February 6, 2012 at 8:24 am

Really sad. I’m sorry

Aanvaller February 7, 2012 at 7:10 am

Merdock!
You have already insulted a people you would not mind to insult, you are only pretending to be reasonable. S.Africa has numerous problems created by its ownself as a nation, the wanton rapes, the perpetual carjacking and so on. The drug issues can not completely be blamed on Nigerians as u have singled out here. Drug dealers move to an environment where there is a huge market for it. Do u realise that 1 Nigerian criminal would have to sell drugs to hundreds of S. African criminals? Because both the sellers and the buyers are criminals ain’t they?
I stronggly believe that it is not Mr G’s intention to establish a platform where some xenophobic people can freely exhibit their xenophobic mentality.

Don’t spoil this blog please, we need mature minds around here not those whose minds are filled with hates.

If you moved to Canada, you should learn about learning to love Canada and be happy there, not crying about wanting to go back to your country if not for some Nigerian drug dealers there. My advise to you, GROW UP

Mr.G February 7, 2012 at 7:57 am

Aanvaller, no need to take on Merdock like that. He’s just giving a opinion.

chinedu obiekwe February 28, 2012 at 7:34 pm
