In 2012, pay close attention to Canadian East and West

If your new year resolution is coming to Canada and find employment along with a good place to live. Or if it’s moving to some other city in the country, my advice would be  ”Look to the sides”. Look East and West.

The trend was very clear in 2011: Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba are growing and a great pace and Energy sectors in these Provinces are booming. Saskatchewan had the lowest unemployment levels with Alberta and Manitoba was always close to them and far from the National averages. Ontario is going down, the manufacturing industry is facing its toughest times and McGinty’s  Liberal government seems to be lost. If you live in Ontario and are thinking about a change, West can be a good place to go.

But do not underestimate the East coast: Newfoundland and Labrador is a place to take into account. Despite its awful weather and the tornadoes every once in a while, NL is coming to an economic boom. As it happened in the West, Newfoundland and Labrador will also have some very interesting Energy programs that will produce a shortage of skilled workers. US-based Chevron Corp and Norway’s Statoil ASA, Exxon Mobil Corp and Nalcor Energy Corp are among the companies with Energy projects in the Province.

Now let me know your thoughts: Where do you think opportunities will be in 2012?
