Oh Gosh! With three kids and having been in this “parent business” for long, I never thought a back to school week could be so hard and stressful!
We have three boys: M (4), starting Junior Kinder. F (8), starting grade 3. S (14), starting high school. For the three of them is, for one reason or another, a week of “New somethings”
M is new to everything: yellow bus and school. He’s so excited about this that he just wants to get in the bus every single morning… But not your time yet Little Boy! You have to go through the adaptation period first!
We’ve been with him at school for an hour last week. He had a great time, the kids are all adorable and the teacher seems to be a very nice lady. This week he will be going on his own in the bus. Let’s see!
F is new to the school. We changed him from the old school art our old neighborhood to the one that corresponds to our address. He’s still trying to fit but I’m confident he will make it. He’s a charismatic kind of guy. I hope his new teacher supports him enough and that he does not have any issues with the boys. Kids can be cruel sometimes!
S is new to High School. And also are we! We did not do our High School in North America so we are new to this system. Poor S! Every time he faces a new era, we also do with him. We try to give him our best support, but we are learning all this at the same time!
He’s also “kind of new” to the local transport system. Until last year he went to school and came back with the yellow buses. Starting this year, he will have to take OC Transpo. Terrible shock but necessary!
All the changes made all of us nervous: the kids and us. We want them to go through life with a minimum amount of stress, right? Well, that’s what we try. And we survived!
How was the first week of school for you? Let us know in the comments!
