Looking for a Job in Canada is not much different to looking for a job somewhere else. There are a few simple ways to use at the moment we decide to look for a job in this country.
Let me share with you some of the ones I’ve learned during these past years:
- The easy and not effective one: newspapers. Go, buy the newspaper and read the classified ads. Lots of entry jobs for sure. Some professional jobs. Just the tip of the iceberg and not that effective.
- Walk around and look: If you just need an entry level job, just pay attention while you walk. Many shops use to show hiring signs in their windows. Even construction jobs can be found that way. Just take a look, if you see a sign go in and ask!
- The other easy way: Job sites. A few days ago I told you about a few job websites I thought were the best you could use in Canada. Again, more info, low chances. Those sites tell you how to do a job search in Canada.
- Immigration Services: They always know what’s going on and sometimes they develop plans with the government. If you are lucky, you may get good help from them. You can find a list of Immigration Services Agencies here.
- Professional Associations: If you can join your professional association, that’d be a good way to get in touch with your colleagues in Canada. They may be the best source of information and advice you are looking for. You can find a list of Professional Associations in Canada here.
- Cold Calls: Investigate, look for the companies where you’d like to work at, pick up the phone and try to get a meeting with a manager in your area or someone at human resources. Yes, I know it’s hard to do. But some people have what it gets to do it.
- Talk to others… Use the power of networking! Networking is the mos powerful tool in this country, you don’t want to ruin it!
Is there any other way to look for a job you can tell us?
